Byron Donalds — Republican Candidate for U.S. House in Florida, 2026
Last updated: March 4, 2026
Byron's Positions on Key Issues
Economy
HighByron Donalds prioritizes affordable housing, lower energy prices, and reduced costs for household staples to foster economic growth and investment in the United States. He attributes recent inflation and labor shortages to the legislative agendas of the previous administration, specifically citing the American Rescue Plan and Build Back Better Plan. His economic focus centers on fiscal responsibility and conservative principles.
““The Democrats’ care for affordability is a hoax, because they are the ones that created Joe Biden’s American Rescue Plan and Joe Biden’s Build Back Better Plan that created inflation in our country, it created a labor shortage, and that is what allowed prices to skyrocket for the American people,” Donalds stated. “And so now, you have the Democrats who were the arsonists, and now they want to be the firefighters, and it’s just not right.” (Byron Donalds, Tampa Free Press via AOL.com, following the President's State of the Union address in 2026)”
Immigration
HighByron Donalds supports strict immigration enforcement and advocates for legal immigrants to assimilate into American culture, citing concerns about issues seen in Europe from a lack of assimilation. He has defended Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations, asserting that the agency acts within the confines of the law. Donalds states that Florida must comply with federal immigration law.
““What we can't allow is what the Democrats want: wide open immigration, illegal and legal, and they do not want assimilation. The issue that has happened in Europe, which we don't want to see happen here in the United States, is that if you're going to immigrate to America legally, that's fine. But you have to assimilate into the American way of life.” — Byron Donalds, The Floridian, December 2025”
Healthcare
HighByron Donalds supports redesigning the health care marketplace and eliminating the Affordable Care Act, which he views as a government overreach leading to a "single-payer socialist system." He advocates for market-driven reforms and premium subsidies given directly to individuals to buy health care. Donalds voted to end subsidies for Marketplace plans and believes catastrophic health plans are more suitable for many Americans than comprehensive policies. He also joined the House Oversight Committee to address the "failed ACA Marketplace" and examine causes of rising costs.
“As a firm believer in limited federal government, I can not support the imposition of unaffordable and unconstitutional healthcare on the American people. As a nation with the most advanced medical practices and medicine in the modern world, the United States should have a prospering healthcare system, not be inundated with the failure of Obamacare. The Affordable Care Act is a ruse by the federal government to seize control over the health care and insurance industry, slowly leading the U.S. to a single-payer socialist system." (Byron Donalds, donalds.house.gov/issues/issue/?IssueID=74)”
Climate & Energy
HighByron Donalds has consistently voted against environmental protection legislation, receiving low scores from the League of Conservation Voters, including a 0% in 2025 and a 1% lifetime score. He voted "No" on the Commerce, Justice, Science; Energy and Water Development; and Interior and Environment Appropriations Act, 2026, and "Yes" on bills like the Homeowner Energy Freedom Act. Donalds also supported legislation to remove the term "climate change" from state law and convened a closed water summit with polluters and regulators.
“If he opened the meeting to everyone, Donalds argued, the poor polluters and the people regulating them would be too scared to talk honestly. (Florida Phoenix, November 20, 2025)”
Abortion & Reproductive Rights
HighByron Donalds opposes federal legislation on abortion, stating that the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling returned the authority to regulate abortion to individual states. He voted Yea on the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act (HR 21 and HR 26). He has received 100% ratings from Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America and National Right to Life Committee, indicating a stance against abortion access.
““The U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling is clear, regulating abortion is the job of the states, not the federal government. I will vote NO on any effort to expand abortion access in America.” - Rep. Byron Donalds, donalds.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=703 (issued around 2022)”
Foreign Policy
HighByron Donalds advocates for the end of the Cuban regime and for the establishment of open relationships between Cuba and the United States. He believes it is time for freedom to prevail in Cuba, particularly now that Venezuela is cooperating with the U.S. This position was articulated at a campaign event in Miami.
““Now that Venezuela has decided that they want to cooperate and work with the United States of America, something is happening to this island nation not too far away,” Donalds said to cheers from the conservative Miami crowd in the room. “It is time for the Cuban regime to come to an end. It is time for freedom to reign in Cuba and have real, open relationships with the United States.” — Byron Donalds, AOL.com, Monday, March 02, 2026”
Education
HighByron Donalds supports education reform focused on improving student proficiency in core subjects, aiming to increase proficiency rates from 30% to 50% to better prepare children for future challenges. He has refined his views on education policy, now advocating for solutions for nonpublic school infrastructure and microschools, rather than exclusively promoting charter schools. He also voted against the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2026.
“One of the things I focus on is helping children in our state become proficient in core subject matter. About 30 percent of our kids are proficient in math and reading. We need to raise that bar (to) 50 percent. If you’re proficient in core subjects, now you’re even more ready to take on the challenges of the world. We’re preparing the future of Florida." - Byron Donalds, governing.com”
Gun Policy
HighByron Donalds consistently opposes gun control measures, advocating for the repeal of Florida's red-flag law. He voted against the Marjory Stoneman Douglas bill in the Legislature, citing concerns that red flag laws infringe upon Fifth Amendment rights and create a two-tier system for young adults. As a Congressman, he states his duty is to protect the Second Amendment and has opposed legislation he views as infringing upon gun rights.
“I would support and push for that, but I think that the bigger thing that we need to get done is really unwinding the red flag laws in our state,” Donalds said. “When I was in the Legislature, the Marjory Stoneman Douglas bill came through the Legislature. I was a freshman at that time and I opposed that legislation. And I opposed it because I thought that red flag laws really did take away your Fifth Amendment rights as a citizen, and I also felt that there should not be a two-tier system for adults between the ages of 18 and 21. [...] “I felt that was wrong then, and I still feel that way, so I would tell you that making sure that those two provisions — those constitutional rights are actually restored will probably be job one.” (Byron Donalds, on the Bob Rose Show, as reported by Mitch Perry, Florida Phoenix, May 22, 2025)”
