Lalota's Positions on Key Issues
Economy
MediumCongressman Nick LaLota voted for H.Res.1014 and H.Amdt.154 in 2026. He successfully brokered a deal to quadruple the State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction cap, aiming to save families up to $8,000. He also secured $135 million in full funding for the Electron-Ion Collider at Brookhaven National Laboratory, exceeding the President's request and protecting 970 jobs. LaLota additionally voted to overturn harmful banking regulations and opposed waiving Buy American requirements for EV charging stations, seeking to protect consumers and businesses.
Immigration
HighLalota Nick voted to pass H.R. 2056, the District of Columbia Federal Immigration Compliance Act of 2025, to prohibit D.C. from enacting sanctuary city policies, stating that the nation's capital should not be a sanctuary for lawlessness. He also supported H.R. 35, the Agent Raul Gonzalez Officer Safety Act, to enforce stricter penalties for evading U.S. Border Patrol. He voted for the Secure the Border Act and aims to strengthen border security, safeguard frontline defenders, and ensure community safety.
““I proudly voted for the District of Columbia Federal Immigration Compliance Act because our nation’s capital—the seat of our laws—should never be a sanctuary for lawlessness,” said Rep. LaLota, in a press release after voting to pass H.R. 2056 on June 12, 2025.”
Healthcare
HighCongressman Nick LaLota voted for a three-year extension of enhanced Affordable Care Act premium tax credits (H.R. 1834) to help constituents reliant on them, despite viewing the ACA as deeply flawed. He also proposed a plan for two-year tax deductions for individuals who previously received Obamacare aid. Claims made by LaLota about protecting Medicaid during budget votes were found to be inaccurate.
““While the ACA is deeply flawed, I voted to extend the Enhanced Premium Tax Credits for three years to help the nearly 50,000 constituents who rely on them and to give momentum to a bipartisan group of Senators working toward a better solution—one that preserves targeted relief, reinstates income caps, and finally cracks down on waste, fraud, and abuse in the program,” said Rep. LaLota. (Press Release, January 8, 2026)”
Climate & Energy
HighRepresentative Lalota Nick received scores of 14% and 12% from the League of Conservation Voters in 2023 and 2025, respectively, reflecting votes against measures such as blocking funding for environmental justice. Conversely, he has supported offshore wind projects and advanced legislation for "critical investments" in clean water infrastructure and environmental protection for his district.
“America is blessed with abundant natural resources, including critical minerals. (replalota on Instagram, January 21, 2026)”
Abortion & Reproductive Rights
HighLalota Nick opposes second and third-trimester abortions and supports parental notification laws, stating that eliminating these abortions represents common ground. He has voted against national abortion access, including a bill to establish criminal penalties for doctors and an amendment to restrict reproductive healthcare for service members. Mr. Nick also applauded the overturning of Roe v. Wade and voted against an amendment to protect IVF coverage for federal workers.
“Abortion is a personal and divisive topic but I will lead the charge to find common ground – and that is eliminating second and third trimester abortions, and I do not oppose abortion in cases of rape, incest, or to save the mother’s life. - Nick LaLota's website (as quoted by cityandstateny.com, Sept 2022)”
Foreign Policy
HighLalota Nick voted in favor of bipartisan legislation that bolstered national security and global stability, including bills to replenish American stockpiles, counter China’s aggression, and support allies like Israel against adversaries. As a Navy Veteran, he stated a preference for providing support to allies to defeat common adversaries to avoid deploying American soldiers. He also voted "Yea" on the PROTECT Taiwan Act and "Nay" on a resolution concerning a national emergency declaration.
““The bills we passed today will help replenish American stockpiles, counter China’s aggression, defeat Putin’s Russia, and support our ally Israel. As a Navy Veteran, I will always prefer sending bombs and bullets to our allies to defeat a common adversary if it means not having to put American soldiers in harm’s way. While it is incredibly important to address our nation’s staggering and growing debt, we must also preserve America’s national security. Evil must be dealt with head-on,” said LaLota.”
Education
MediumRepresentative LaLota supported H.Res. 461, which condemned using elementary and secondary public school facilities as shelters for non-admitted aliens, stating that schools are for children. He also announced over $11 million in additional federal funding for research programs at Stony Brook University. LaLota scored 100% on Educational Freedom by TPAction and voted to protect schools and students.
Gun Policy
HighLalota Nick voted to pass the Improving Law Enforcement Officer Safety and Wellness Through Data Act, the LEOSA Reform Act, and the Federal Law Enforcement Officer Service Weapon Purchase Act of 2025. These bills aim to increase data collection for officer safety, permit qualified officers to carry concealed firearms nationwide, and allow retired officers to purchase service weapons. He states his support for the absolute right to gun ownership is to protect families from violent criminals.
